On February 28, 2026, the Mill Creek Town Center Forum buzzed with energy, laughter, and meaningful conversations during the annual Health and Wellness Fair.
As one of the event sponsors, our team at Sound Audiology had the privilege of connecting with our neighbors, families, and friends while championing the importance of hearing health.
The day was filled with opportunities to answer your questions, provide hands-on ear health checks, and empower you with knowledge to protect your hearing for years to come.
Why Community Wellness Starts with You
When you take an active role in your health, you strengthen the entire community. That’s why Sound Audiology chose to participate in the Health and Wellness Fair: to meet you where you are, listen to your concerns, and offer guidance on hearing wellness.
By stepping outside the clinic and into the heart of Mill Creek, we aimed to make hearing health approachable and accessible.
You deserve to feel confident about your hearing and know where to turn for support, whether you’re curious about your own hearing or want to safeguard your child’s ears.
Your Top Hearing Health Questions, Answered
Throughout the day, you brought thoughtful questions and real-life concerns to our table. Some of the most common topics included:
“Do children get hearing tested? If so, when?”
You asked about the right age for hearing tests and how to ensure your child’s ears are healthy.
The answer: Yes, children can (and should) have their hearing tested, especially if you notice any signs of difficulty or if there’s a family history of hearing loss. Early testing gives your child the best chance to thrive in school and social settings.“Is it safe to take my child to a loud sporting event?”
You want to create memories with your kids, but you also want to keep them safe. The key is using proper hearing protection, like child-sized earmuffs, to shield their developing ears from loud noises.“What sort of hearing protection is recommended?”
Whether you’re a music lover, a sports fan, or someone who works in a noisy environment, you benefit from using earplugs or custom-fitted ear protection. Thanks to Dr. Julie’s expertise, we had the chance to explain the best options and how you can choose the right protection for your lifestyle.Ear anatomy and custom ear protection questions
We met many curious individuals wondering how their ears work and how to get the best fit for hearing protection. Knowing your unique ear shape helps you select the most comfortable and effective solutions.
What We Learned from On-Site Otoscopic Exams
You took advantage of our complimentary otoscopic exams, giving us a window into your ear health. Here’s what we discovered together:
Clear ears: Many of you had healthy, clear ear canals, proof that regular care pays off.
Wax buildup: Some ears showed brown, sticky wax, a common and treatable issue. If you ever notice discomfort or muffled hearing, a quick check can give you peace of mind.
Unique anatomy: One attendee learned that their curved ear canal explained why earbuds never seemed to fit them quite right. You benefit from understanding your own anatomy, which can guide your choices in hearing devices and protection.
Who We Met: A Snapshot of Our Community
The fair brought together a mix of all walks of life, from working adults to retirees, as well as many families with young children. You came with questions about your own hearing, concerns for your kids, and curiosity about new hearing protection options.
Many of you were surprised to learn that hearing tests are available for children of all ages, and that early screening can make a world of difference.
You shared stories and traditions from around the world, including one woman’s experience with family members cleaning each other’s ears, a common practice in some Asian cultures.
While this may seem caring, you should know that at-home ear cleaning can be risky. Using cotton swabs or improvised tools can push wax deeper or cause injury. You benefit from letting a professional check your ears if you have concerns about wax or discomfort.
You also appreciated learning about custom ear protection, which is especially important for those who work in noisy environments or enjoy loud hobbies. We were happy to explain how you can get a perfect fit, and how custom solutions can improve comfort and effectiveness.
